Recognising the disruptive potential of technology in insurance, Direct Line innovated to address everyday problems, starting with the challenge of darkness.
Darkness not only breeds fear and criminality but also contributes to numerous road accidents annually in the UK.
Fleetlights offered a novel solution by deploying a swarm of drones, controlled via a smartphone app, to illuminate paths for individuals, thereby enhancing safety and visibility.
This service utilises powerful lights carried by drones, managed through a bespoke 'ground-to-swarm' formation program.
Initially tested in the International Dark Sky Reserve of Petworth, the technology behind Fleetlights, was made open-source, encouraging further innovation an is currently being used by the UK’s emergency services.
